Somalia
Somalia has one of the worst infant mortality rates out of all the countries Human Appeal work in. Almost a quarter of all children here die before the age of 5. The poverty in Somalia reached worldwide notoriety in the 1980s and Live Aid was a call for action. However poverty remains and the people are still in a desperate situation. In 2006 torrential rains flooded the whole country affecting 400 000 people. The floods followed a long draught earlier that year and destroyed the few crops that survived leaving millions facing starvation.
Human Appeal International in Somalia In the last year alone we have dug tube wells in drought-ridden communities operated mobile medical clinics across the country and provided food parcels to families on the brink of starvation. More vital work is underway for this afflicted country.
