Palestine
The grinding poverty that is spiralling out of control for the people of Palestine is clearly apparent to the world community. Every child’s future is jeopardised with the constant curfews and the destruction of countless schools through air strikes and tank missiles.
The UN reports that the current rate of malnutrition in children under the age of five in the Gaza strip and parts of the West Bank are as bad as anywhere one would find in the Sub-Saharan Africa. Unemployment rates are very high as over 65% of the population has no work, no opportunity, and no future. Over two thirds of the population lives on less than $2 a day.
Human Appeal in Palestine
Human Appeal’s vital work in Palestine has been geared to help these deprived people and their communities. The provision of food, water, and medical care has been the major bulk of our work. The family sponsorship project has been key in helping the most vulnerable of families to stay afloat and restore some human dignity to their lives.
The orphan and family sponsorship programmes are just some of the long-term development projects HAI is committed to.
